Our Process

We strive to build long term relationships where we help you take control of your financial future.

Your Guide
to Financial Freedom

We believe financial planning is a process that evolves over time as your circumstances change and your life becomes more complex. Our comprehensive financial planning process is designed to address where you are now, where you want to go, and what actionable steps we can take to achieve long term success.

Comprehensive Planning Process

STEP 1

Discovery

We start with a conversation and exercises to explore your money history, goals, and values. We ask you a series of questions so we have a clear understanding of who you are and what’s most important to you. We also identify what obstacles are standing in the way of your financial success.

STEP 2

Data Gathering & Organizing

We provide a checklist of the information we need for a comprehensive financial review. Then we set you up with access to a personal client website where you can upload your financial documents and create secure, read-only links to your online accounts. From there, we help you organize your financial information.

STEP 3

Net Worth & Cash Flow

After reviewing your information, we determine where you are now by reviewing your net worth and cash flow. We use this information to develop a strategy for managing your cash flow, debt, and savings. We help you automate savings and bill pay to make life easier, and prioritize savings goals.

STEP 4

Investments

Now that we thoroughly understand your financial picture, we develop an investment strategy to help you reach your goals. We start with general investment education, then we discuss your risk tolerance. From there, we provide advice for your employer-sponsored retirement accounts and manage your other investment accounts.

STEP 5

Insurance & Estate Planning

We analyze your life, disability, homeowners or renters, auto, and excess liability insurance policies to assess any risks and fill in gaps where needed. We also review your wills, powers of attorney and advance directives along with your beneficiary designations. We work with insurance experts and attorneys to make changes if needed.

STEP 6

Other Planning Topics

Finally, we review all remaining planning areas that are relevant to your situation, such as tax planning, employee benefits, equity compensation, major purchases, and college planning. For each topic, we provide recommendations and identify action items. We also offer referrals, communications, and coordination with other professionals as needed.

We’re committed to the process of planning, as we believe the process is more valuable than the plan itself. Once we’ve established a foundation and prioritized your action items, we serve as an accountability partner to keep you on track. Subsequent years include regular meetings to revisit your plan, discuss your progress, and make adjustments as needed. In addition to planned meetings, we provide ongoing support via phone, email, or additional meetings.
